How bad is deployment?

So bad that this outcome almost (almost) felt like a relief.

Almost.

So far my husband has lost three friends, every NCO in his platoon has a purple heart and a third of them have been sent away from theater permanently for medical treatment. He was shot at every day this deployment and had more close calls than I care to think about, even now that he is home and "ok."

Deployments are bad. So bad that when your soldier gets one leg blown off and the other smashed up and comes moments from dying, you are almost (almost) relieved because the fucking thing is over and he will never have to do that job again.

Deployment number 1 for us is looming in the future... Coming too quickly but I also want to get it over with.

I can imagine what you mean, not from experience, but from empathy - but that is not the same as saying, "I know what you mean," because I don't. I haven't walked in your shoes, nor in his. I'm so sorry for what he has had to see and experience, and I am so grateful to him, to you and to his colleagues for all that they have offered in service. Please tell him for me!
